Crisis Intervention Advocate Position

Position Summary: The Crisis Intervention Advocate reports to the Executive Director. All CIA’s are responsible for responding to the 24-hour domestic and sexual violence hotline and for covering the operations of the shelter during the shift worked by the CIA.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent and an interest in women’s survival and safety issues.


  1. Answer the hotline and complete hotline call sheets on all hotline calls received.
  2. Complete and maintain client records as appropriate and/or as assigned as a new employee.
  3. Complete 55-hours of domestic and sexual assault advocacy training.
  4. Obtain no less than six hours of continuing education as assigned by Director annually.
  5. Be prompt and dependable for assigned shifts.
  6. Respect the confidentiality of all clients.
  7. Assist clients in developing and achieving their own goals.
  8. Act as a sounding board for clients, offering options, but supporting the decisions made by the client, supporting her right to self-determination.
  9. Maintain appropriate professional supportive relationships with clients.
  10. Assist clients with completing necessary paperwork, including ex parte orders of protection, as appropriate and/or as assigned.
  11. Provide support, information and referrals to community resources based on client needs and decisions.
  12. Follow established safety policies and procedures.
  13. Attend staff meetings.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned/requested by the Director
